Help us to help you
Like all other hospitals across the country, we are seeing more patients than ever before this winter. We are doing everything we can to make sure patients continue to receive the very best care – and there are things you can do to help us.
- Two visitors only can visit a patient at any time.
- We ask that you do not bring children under to age of 12 onto wards to help us keep germs away from hospital. If a youngster wants to get a message to a loved one, why not urge them to be creative? We are dedicating space on all the wards for Christmas cards, especially home made ones. We also have phones and email on bedsides to patients can have personal contact.
- Visiting times are being restricted to two hours per day only. Click here to get contact details to find out visiting times for an individual ward.
- If you want to have your relative out of hospital and home in time for Christmas, give them time to get home and settle in before the festivities begin. People with relatives in hospital can call the ward and arrange for discharge as soon as the patient is well enough to go home.

Please note visiting times have been revised until further notice. Please phone the ward you want to visit to clarify the visiting times and number of visitors allowed. Please note that no children are allowed in for visiting on any of the Wards.

Healthy volunteers required for sleep research
Are you healthy and aged 18-50? If so, we need your help for our study examining the role of sleep on metabolism.
Who are we?
This study has been designed by doctors and scientists from the University of Birmingham & Heartlands Hospital who specialise in Sleep Research and Endocrinology, the study of hormones within the body.
What is the study?
We are investigating levels of various metabolic hormones in healthy humans with various sleep durations. You can sleep in the comfort of your own home but will need to attend the research unit on 6 occasions (meals provided) over 3 months to provide blood samples. Incentives will be offered to all volunteers who complete the full duration of the study.
What do I do now?
If you are interested in taking part, please contact Teresa Arora (Chief
Investigator) or Dr Shahrad Taheri (Academic Supervisor) for further information about the study.
