Dyslexia Support Service For Staff

The Trust has set up a support service for staff who may be suffering from dyslexia with a specially designed internal website, and is the only one of it’s kind in the region launched in collaboration with the Dyslexia Association Birmingham.  The site provides invaluable information both for staff who have or who think they may have dyslexia and guidance for managers and mentors so they can provide or seek appropriate support for their staff.

The Dyslexia Association Birmingham worked closely with the Trust, providing advice regarding the development of this website and welcome their positive approach to increasing the awareness of dyslexia. The launch of this site is evidence that the Trust has a positive approach to Equality and Diversity issues and welcomes the employment of individuals with disabilities.

The site can be found under "D" on the staff Intranet. For more information contact Amee Hawkes on 43347 or Tracey Starkey-Moore on 49358.

Guide Dog Association

Breeding/training guide dogs, training visually impaired people to use guide dogs and providing other services/facilities for the visually impaired.  You don't need to have lost all your sight, or to be registered as blind or partially-sighted for Guide Dogs to help you. You just need to have sight loss that makes it difficult to get around independently or live life to the full. A guide dog only costs 50p and there are no age restrictions to having a guide dog. We have guide dog owners in their 70's and 80's and have recently removed the minimum age for applying. Enquire about applying for a guide dog on 0845 372 7499 or visit http://www.guidedogs.org.uk/

The mission of the Guide Dogs Association is - "We want a society in which blind and partially-sighted people enjoy the same freedom of movement as everyone else."
